Excellence in Forestry - Overview

The RFS Excellence in Forestry Awards are now established as the country’s premier competition, recognising the wise management of trees and woodlands and supporting schools that are involved in promoting learning from seed to saw at all ages.

Forestry has a lot of good stories to tell. Our RFS Excellence in Forestry Awards provide a platform to get those messages across, both within the forestry industry and to the public at large. As the UK’s largest and most diverse forestry charity, the RFS is well-placed to lead on this.

The RFS Excellence in Forestry Awards are designed to match the broad remit that forestry and woodland management has in the 21st Century – based on the maxim of best forestry practice and quality timber production as the driving force. They move around England, Wales and Northern Ireland on a seven-year rotation.

Details of the 2009, 2010 and 2011 winners are in the News section of this website (visit 2009, 2010 and 2011).

In 2012 the competition moves to the South West, covering Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Avon, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Details will be posted soon. Register your interest here.
