The purpose of this Award is to recognise how woodlands can be managed in a way that is sympathetic to the landscape, conserving and enhancing the wildlife value for both the short- and long-term, while still remaining consistent with the primary purpose of sustainable timber production.

Entries are invited from all woodland owners, or forest managers, from the private, public or voluntary sectors. All woods, or groups of woods under the same management, of between 20 hectares and 200 hectares are eligible for entry.

The Award will be made annually in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Judging will take place on a regional basis.

The Forestry Commission is delighted to lend its support to the RFS Woodland Awards. The awards are a special opportunity to show how forestry skills and innovation can apply the new UK Forestry Standard and its guidelines in practice.

Application forms for the 2013 competition will be available to download here in July.
