The RFS Woodland Awards are now established as the country’s premier competition; recognising and rewarding the wise management of trees, woodlands and forests, and supporting schools that are involved in tree and woodland projects. The 2012 competition has seen some very high quality entries, and judging is now underway.

In 2013 the competition will visit the North West and the West Midlands covering Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

There are a lot of good stories to tell about British woodlands and the RFS Woodland Awards are an ideal way to tell them. We promote the good work of our winning entries right across the industry and to the public at large so that everyone can learn and be inspired. As the UK’s most diverse woodland charity the RFS is well-placed to lead on this.

The RFS Woodland Awards are designed to encompass the broad remit that woodland management has in the 21st Century; from best forestry practice and quality timber production through to multipurpose woodlands for wildlife and recreation, small woodlands, community woodlands and even school and college projects. The competition moves around England, Wales and Northern Ireland on a seven-year rotation.

The Forestry Commission is delighted to lend its support to the RFS Woodland Awards. The awards are a special opportunity to show how forestry skills and innovation can apply the new UK Forestry Standard and its guidelines in practice.
