Arboreta & Tree Collections

Many specialist arboreta or gardens with good tree collections are open to the public. Others - such as our RFS Redwood Grove and Pinetum in Powys - welcome special groups by arrangement.

There are many places with good tree collections, for instance:

  • The Forestry Commission boasts the world famous Bedgebury National Pinetum in Kent and Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire.
  • The National Trust has many specimen trees in its properties.
  • The Royal Horticultural Society Gardens.
  • The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.
  • The Northern Ireland Forest Service has information on tree places there.

Tree identification books often list places worth visiting.
Britain has a wealth of botanic gardens and arboreta. Further suggestions can be found on the PlantNet website (the Plant Collections Network of Britain and Ireland).
