Schools Award
RFS Woodland Awards 2012, in association with Forestry Commission (England)
|
Kindly sponsored by: |

This Award aims to encourage and reward schools, colleges or educational establishments that increase young people's understanding and appreciation of the environmental, social and economic potential of trees, woodlands and forests and of the link between trees and everyday wood products.
Entries should embrace and show the concept that woodlands need to be managed sensitively and sustainably to deliver many benefits including wood-based products, wildlife and recreation.
Schools are not required to start something new if they are already working on a tree- or woodland-related project.
For example, eligible projects could include:
- practical improvements to trees or woodlands in school grounds or
in the local community - a programme of learning in a woodland or forest environment
e.g. Forest School or forest industry setting - a classroom-based study of woods and forest and or the forest industry.
To enter a school you need to complete a form and include any examples of students' work, photographs, videos etc. The competition is free to enter.
The award will be made annually in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Judging will take place on a regional basis.
The entry form, further details and guidelines can be downloaded by clicking the links below. Your entry form may be submitted by email or through the post.

The RFS has also developed a range of free woodland resources for schools, including the Pancake Challenge interactive game. A free CD-ROM of the game is available to ALL Primary Schools (whether or not they enter the Schools Award). Simply send us your school's contact details via rfshq@rfs.org.uk.
