RFS Annual Review 2008-2009

Date Issued: 14 December 2009

This Annual Review 2008-2009 reports on one of the busiest years on record in the Royal Forestry Society’s 126-year history.

It began with the 50th anniversary of RFS ownership of the Leighton Redwood Grove and Naylor Pinetum, and the first in a series of Wild about Wood days, held in partnership with the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire (BBOWT) Wildlife Trust.

In November 2008, a 125th anniversary visit to the Great Park and the Deer Park at Windsor and tea at the award winning Savill Building - attended by our Patron HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh – was much enjoyed by all.

During May we again remembered our roots when our North Eastern Division installed a plaque in the garden of the house in Hexham where founder member John Robson once lived.

Other notable events have been: the publication of Tree Terms, the launch of our new website and Discovery Zone; the successful pilot of our Excellence in Forestry awards, held in association with FC England; our Whole Society Meeting in May in North Wales and a study trip to North East Turkey.

October 2009 saw a change at the top, as the two-year term of office for our President John Besent came to an end and Vice President Anthony Bosanquet took on the role.

These events, and many more – from education projects and outdoor visits, to award winners and who’s who – are described in the RFS Annual Review 2008-2009. Download your copy by clicking the link below, or contact rfshq@rfs.org.uk for a printed copy.
