Instructor: Becky Wilkinson

Location:  Battram Wood, Ibstock, Leicestershire

Course overview:

Join our Teaching Trees lead trainer Becky for a day looking at how to care for the woodland in your Outdoor Learning or Forest School area. Battram Wood is one of our Teaching Trees sites and is visited by hundreds of school children every year to learn about trees and woodlands. See how we have balanced the creation of a learning space with the needs of the woodland and gain practical ideas to use on your site. Ideal for Outdoor Learning or Forest School practitioners who would like to make the most of the sites they are working on.

Learning outcomes:

  • Practical ways to balance the creation of spaces for play and learning with the health of your woodland ecosystem
  • “The right tree in the right place” – planning planting schemes to make the most of your land
  • Creating mini forests – how to get a balanced woodland in a small space
  • DIY woodland maintenance – what jobs to do yourself and when to call in a professional
  • Getting the children involved – creating a whole school culture
