RFS 2021 bursaries open

Applications are now open for RFS Bursary schemes to support RFS Members and students upskill or carry out research in 2021 and for teachers in Derbyshire, Staffordshire or Shropshire to attend an RFS Outdoor Learning training course.

Up to five £150 Spencer Bursaries will be awarded to students to cover the cost of attending any of the one-day in-person RFS training events in 2021 (subject to availability), including travel to the event. Applications close 28 February 2021 and have been made possible by a generous bequest by the late John Anthony Spencer.

Up to four £300 Randle Travel Bursaries will be awarded to RFS members who plan independent overseas travel to study any aspect of forestry. Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions applicants have until May 2022 to complete their trip. Applications close 30 April. The bursary is made possible through the generosity of the Trustees of the Donald Randle Trust. 

The Viking Bursary 2021 will award up to £2,000, to an individual or divided between applicants at the discretion of the RFS Yorkshire Division committee. It aims to support students in higher education to contribute to the study of any aspect of forestry which benefits the practical management and resilience of woodlands. Applications close 30 April. The Viking Bursary has been established thanks to a generous bequest by Mrs Sheila Jorgensen, a former RFS Yorkshire Division member.

The Yorkshire Bursary 2021 of £600 is made jointly by the RFS Yorkshire Division and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society to a student born or living in Yorkshire or undertaking study or research of a forestry issue which affects Yorkshire.  

The North-West Midlands Bursaryof £100 supports school and early years staff to undertake Outdoor Learning training. employed in a state funded setting in Derbyshire, Staffordshire or Shropshire who will be attending an RFS Outdoor Learning training course.
