Coronavirus and RFS events

In the light of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and current Public Health advice, we are sorry to announce that we have had to cancel all RFS meetings taking place before 31 May.  We do not wish to put our members, volunteers and supporters at any risk during this very difficult period.  We will review events scheduled for June and July after Easter and will keep members informed of any developments.

We hope to be back up and running with our events schedule as soon as we safety can.

To summarise:

  • All Divisional woodland and indoor meetings scheduled to take place before 31 May have been cancelled or postponed. A decision on meetings scheduled for June and July will be taken after Easter.   Check the events calendar for more information on individual meetings.
  • RFS one day training courses occuring before 31 May have been cancelled and ticket holders refunded.  We are looking at the possibility of delivering a small number of courses via webinar or distance learning.  Updates on this and the outlook for courses happening after 31 May can be found here
  • The Whole Society Meeting, hosted by the North West Midlands Division in Shropshire and Staffordshire, has been postponed to Monday 10 to Friday 14 May 2021 and ticket holders are being refunded.  Our hosts have all very generously offered to host us next year instead so as far as possible the itinerary listed here will remain unchanged
  • Shortlisting for the Excellence in Forestry Awards in Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man is taking place, but the judging and awards ceremony will be postponed to July 2021.
  • The Treescapes2020 conference 1-2 July is under review and a decision will be made as soon as possible as to whether the event can go ahead as planned or will be postponed.
  • Teaching Trees visits are suspended until schools return to normal, which is not expected before September.
  • The Overseas Study Tour to Finland (30 Aug to 10 Sept) has not been cancelled but we will watch the travel sltuation very closely and will update members with any developments as soon as is feasible.

RFS Staff are working on a rota from home and in the office and aim to provide a full and uninterrupted service to our members.
